These guys can and do instill feelings of fear and loathing into the average Australian. Photographs like this probably don’t help but you need to be aware of the circumstances behind the shots.

This fella has been faced with a couple of massive (me and my mate Mark) animals which he understandably regarded as a direct threat to his existence. We are between him and his perceived quickest route to the long grass and the freedom to hunt again another day. What most people see here is an aggressive killer with only one thing on its mind – to bite you.

Nothing could be further from the truth as this is actually a defensive not an aggressive display. Once we took our shots and moved aside this animal quickly and quietly went to ground and disappeared into the grass.
